Healthy Kids supports working families in our community.

Rosa and Galdino Hernandez and their three children, ages 7, 10 and 13, were dropped from Healthy Families when income from the family’s jewelry business exceeded the program’s eligibility requirements. “We went without any health insurance for more than a year,” said Galdino. “Then we found out about Healthy Kids and enrolled our children.” Rosa and Galdino pay nearly $500 a month in health insurance premiums from the two of them. “Many families who can’t afford insurance simply stop going to the doctors,” said Rosa. “When their health problems get worse, they go to emergency rooms and the state ends up paying more for their care.”
